Vetted access only. This workspace is for research data, evidence preservation, and pre-publication collaboration. For newsroom-wide security coverage, use Managed Security.
Journalist workspace
Managed research workspaces for journalists and small newsrooms.
Secure Origin gives vetted journalists a managed workspace to preserve web evidence, organize reporting data, and collaborate on documents. This is a workspace product, not full newsroom security coverage, publishing infrastructure, or legal support.
Need broader newsroom protection?
Managed Security covers endpoint monitoring, patch visibility, email and identity review, alert triage, and monthly risk reporting for the tools your team already uses. View Managed Security.
What this helps with
A practical workspace for reporting work before publication.
Use Secure Origin to keep research materials, structured trackers, and web captures in a managed workspace with quotas, backups, access control, onboarding, and a clear offboarding path.
Preserve volatile web pages
Capture pages before they change, disappear, or become contested. Keep research copies attached to projects and investigations.
Web evidence · claims · timelines
Organize reporting data
Track FOIA and public records requests, people, companies, agencies, source status, documents, claims, and verification steps.
FOIAs · entities · source notes
Collaborate on files and drafts
Use private project folders and browser document editing for vetted teams working through pre-publication material.
Files · drafts · access reviews
Reporting workflow
Lead with the investigation, not the apps.
The workspace is scoped around how journalists actually work: preserving evidence, structuring research, reviewing documents, and keeping project data recoverable.
Capture
Browsertrix preserves web pages for replay and reference when sources, statements, listings, posts, or documents may change later.
Organize
Baserow Core supports structured trackers for FOIAs, sources, entities, claims, documents, story status, and verification steps.
Collaborate
A managed file workspace with browser document editing gives vetted teams private project folders for drafts and working files.
Offboard
Export and offboarding are part of the scope so work can move with the journalist, newsroom, funder, or legal partner when a project closes.
What's included
Managed workspace operations, not unmanaged software access.
Each workspace is scoped around users, storage, capture/archive volume, Baserow workspaces, backup retention, onboarding, access reviews, support, and export needs.
Web capture and replay
Browsertrix for preserving and replaying pages tied to a reporting project or evidence file.
Structured reporting databases
Baserow Core workspaces for FOIA trackers, entity lists, source logs, document indexes, timelines, and verification status.
Managed file workspace
Private project folders with browser document editing, currently deployed with ownCloud 10 Community and ONLYOFFICE Docs Community.
Identity and access control
SSO/MFA where scoped, user onboarding, basic access review, and workspace access changes handled by Secure Origin.
Backups and operational care
Backup retention, monitoring, updates, recovery expectations, and clear support boundaries defined before launch.
Export and offboarding
A defined path to export files, database records, and workspace materials when a project ends or moves elsewhere.
DocumentCloud-friendly pre-publication workspace, not public embeds
Vetted access no open public signup
Operated workspace quotas, backups, access control
DocumentCloud-friendly workflow
Keep using DocumentCloud for what it does well.
Keep using DocumentCloud for public documents, review, and embeds. Use Secure Origin for pre-publication workspace, web captures, and structured reporting databases.

DocumentCloud
Public document workflow
Publish documents for readers
Use public review, annotations, embeds, and document pages

Boundaries
What this is not.
This workspace has a narrow job: preserve research, organize reporting data, and support private collaboration before publication.
No open signup
Access is vetted before any workspace is created.
Not newsroom-wide security
For endpoint monitoring, email and identity review, alert triage, and monthly risk reporting, use Managed Security.
Not publishing hosting
This is not a CMS, newsletter, blog, or public website platform.
Not DocumentCloud replacement
Use DocumentCloud for public documents, embeds, annotations, and reader-facing evidence.
Not legal or editorial advice
We operate the workspace. You retain legal, editorial, and newsroom responsibility.
Not source intake by default
Tip lines, SecureDrop, or GlobaLeaks require separate scoping and ownership.
Pricing
Pricing is per vetted workspace, not per app.
Tiers cover workspace users, file storage, Browsertrix capture/archive storage, Baserow workspaces, backup retention, onboarding, and support. After vetting, approved customers receive a Stripe Checkout link for the selected tier.
